Working at happier IT

The job is to make other people's days easier.

happier IT hires technical people who are genuinely good with people: service desk, engineering, security operations, cloud and client leadership. We have nothing posted right now that we can list here. General applications are welcome and are read by a person, so if the description below sounds like you, write to us anyway.

Open roles

Nothing we can list here today.

Rather than fill this page with roles that are not real: there is nothing posted right now. Apply anyway. We are always looking for technical talent, and a note sent today is read by a person rather than filed against a vacancy that does not exist yet.

When there are openings, each one will appear here as its own posting with what the role actually involves, where it is based and what it pays. Not a wish list of twenty technologies.

In the meantime, a general application is a real route. Email [email protected] or use the contact form and tell us what you do. We keep good notes, and hiring at a growing managed IT services provider tends to happen faster than the website reflects.

What the work is

Technical work, done for people who are not technical.

happier IT is a managed IT services provider (MSP) and managed security services provider (MSSP). Clients hand us their whole IT function, helpdesk, servers, networks, devices, updates, security, planning, and in return stop thinking about it. That last part is the actual product.

Which makes this a job with two halves. One is technical: you will see more environments in a year here than in five years inside one company, and you will be expected to keep learning. The other half is human. Most calls arrive from someone mid-task and mildly stressed. How they feel at the end of the call is part of the work, not a soft extra.

The company sells the removal of mental load. That only works if the people doing the work absorb some of it, which is why we care so much about how the team is staffed and supported.

What we do not do

We do not sell fear, and we do not use it internally either. No leaderboards for closed tickets, no jokes at a caller's expense, no pretending an outage was somebody else's fault.

PACCT

Five values, as they show up in a working week.

The same five that shape how we treat clients. Read them as a description of what will be expected of you, because that is what they are.

  • Passion

People here care about the parts of the job nobody sees. If that reads as intense to you, it probably is, in a quiet way.

  • Accountability

You will own things from start to finish. Nobody is asked to close a ticket they know is not actually resolved.

  • Compassion

Callers are often having a bad morning. Making someone feel foolish is the one thing that will not be tolerated here, ever.

  • Continuous improvement

Time to learn is treated as work, not a perk. The point is that fewer things break next quarter than this one.

  • Teamwork

Nobody is left alone with a problem too big for them. Asking early is the expected behaviour, not a mark against you.

The roles we hire for

The shapes these jobs usually take.

This is not a list of vacancies. It is what a growing managed IT services provider hires for, so you can see where you might fit before anything is posted.

  • Service desk technicians

The people who answer. Broad knowledge, calm manner, and the patience to explain something twice without ever making the caller feel small.

  • Systems and network engineers

Servers, networks, identity and the projects behind them. The work that decides whether next year has fewer emergencies than this one.

  • Security operations analysts

Our security operations centre (SOC: the team watching for suspicious activity) is in Canada and staffed by our own employees, which means these are our jobs, not a vendor’s.

  • Cloud and Microsoft 365 specialists

Migrations, tenant hygiene, licensing that makes sense, and access that stays tidy after the project ends.

  • Virtual CIOs and account leads

The people who sit with a client, build a roadmap and a budget, and are answerable for whether it happened.

  • Project, service and operations coordinators

The scheduling, follow-through and detail that decide whether a good plan actually reaches the client.

Questions

What people ask before applying.

Do you have any jobs open right now?

Nothing is posted right now. Apply anyway: we are always interested in technical talent, and a note to [email protected] gets read rather than filed.

Can I apply if nothing is posted?

Yes, and it is worth doing. Email [email protected] with what you do, what you would like to be doing, and where you are. A short honest note beats a long polished one.

Where would I be working?

happier IT serves Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, and much of our work is delivered remotely. Head office: 3033 King George Blvd, Unit #36, Surrey, BC V4P 1B8. Which roles are on site, hybrid or remote depends on the role, so ask when you write.

Do I need certifications to be considered?

They help, and they are not the whole picture. We hold vendor and industry certifications across Microsoft, Cisco, Citrix, Dell, HP and HPE, VMware, CompTIA, Red Hat and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH, a credential for people who test systems the way an attacker would). If you are strong technically and good with people but light on paper, say so and tell us what you have actually built or fixed.

What is the team like?

51 to 100 people. Small enough that you will know everyone's name, large enough to run a security operations centre on a proper rota.

How big is happier IT?

happier IT is a Canadian-owned managed IT services provider (MSP) and managed security services provider (MSSP) serving Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. Founded in 1996, 51 to 100 people. More on the about page.

Think you would fit, but nothing is posted?

Write to us anyway. A short note about what you do and what you would like to be doing is enough, it gets read by a person.
