Where we work
Managed IT services in Ontario
Remote-first, and straight with you about the rest.
happier IT provides managed IT and cybersecurity to organizations across Ontario, including Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa, Hamilton, London and Kitchener-Waterloo. Support is remote-first and delivered from our Canadian security operations centre. Ontario is also where our presence is thinnest of the three provinces we serve, and this page says so before you ask.
How support works here
What you get, and what we do not have.
What you get is the same as everywhere else we work. A person answers the phone. Devices, updates, backups and identity are managed centrally. Our security operations centre in Canada, staffed by our own employees, watches for the things nobody wants to find out about on a Monday.
What we do not have is a Toronto office. There is no branch, no local van, no technician twenty minutes from Mississauga. happier IT grew in Western Canada and Ontario is the newest of our three provinces.
In practice, most of what an organization of 15 to 200 people needs never required a local address. Laptops are configured here and shipped ready to sign in. Servers increasingly are not in your building at all. Where hands-on work is genuinely needed, on-site attendance in Ontario is arranged locally and agreed with you before the visit, because happier IT has no Ontario office and says so, and where a trusted local pair of hands is the right answer, we will arrange it and tell you that is what we are doing.
This is the paragraph most providers leave out. We would rather you decide with it than discover it in month two.

Ontario sectors we know
What the work looks like in this province.
Ontario concentrates two things: regulated professional work in the Greater Toronto Area, and manufacturing along the southwestern corridor. Both have specific software and specific obligations.
-
Finance, insurance and lending
Greater Toronto Area brokerages, lenders and advisory firms. Small teams, heavy client-data obligations, and regulators or underwriters who now ask for evidence rather than assurances.
-
Law firms and legal services
Practices where confidentiality is the product. Document management, matter files, and a professional obligation to know exactly who could have opened something.
-
Manufacturing across southwestern Ontario
Plants between Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and London, where the office network and the plant floor are two different worlds that still have to talk to each other safely.
-
Healthcare clinics under PHIPA
Medical, dental and rehabilitation clinics holding personal health information, with a provincial statute setting out how it must be protected and what happens if it is not.
-
Professional and back-office services
Accounting, engineering, staffing and consultancies of 15 to 200 people, usually with one person quietly carrying IT alongside their actual job.
If you hold health records
PHIPA, in plain English.
PHIPA is the Personal Health Information Protection Act. It is Ontario's law covering how personal health information is collected, used, stored, shared and disposed of, and it applies to health information custodians, most clinics and practitioners, and the providers acting on their behalf.
What it means day to day is unglamorous and entirely doable. Access limited to the people who need it. A record of who opened what. Storage arrangements you can describe accurately. A plan for what happens, and who is told, if information goes somewhere it should not have.
Clinics in the Greater Toronto Area also tend to run software with its own rules about hosting and updates. We would rather learn those before a migration than during one.
For clinics specifically
The detail lives on the sector pages: healthcare and clinics, medical clinics and dental clinics.
Cities
Where our Ontario clients are.
Toronto and Mississauga. Finance, insurance, legal and advisory firms, plus the head offices of organizations whose operations sit elsewhere. Small teams, expensive practice software, and clients who ask security questions during procurement rather than after.
Brampton and Vaughan. The making-and-moving half of the Greater Toronto Area: advanced manufacturing, food processing, logistics and construction. The recurring problem here is not the office, it is the relationship between the office network and the equipment that earns the money.
Ottawa. Professional services and not-for-profits, many of them working alongside public-sector organizations, which brings questions about where information is stored and who can reach it into the first conversation instead of the last.
Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and London. Manufacturing, engineering and the firms that supply them. The recurring problem is the same one across the corridor: production systems that must keep running, on a network that also carries email, and no appetite for a change that stops the line.
Everywhere else. Ontario is large and our footprint here is young. If you are outside these centres, ask, you will get a straight answer about what is remote, what is arranged locally, and what we would not take on.
Each city page above says what the work actually looks like there, which Ontario statute applies to you, and what we can and cannot do without a local address. Where two cities have the same story, and the four Greater Toronto Area pages genuinely do on coverage, the pages say the same true thing rather than inventing a difference.
Questions
What Ontario organizations ask us.
Do you have an office in Toronto?
No. Our head office address is 3033 King George Blvd, Unit #36, Surrey, BC V4P 1B8, and Ontario is served from there rather than from a local branch. Plenty of providers list a Toronto address that is a mailbox. We would rather say plainly that we do not have one.
Which Ontario cities do you cover?
Remote support covers the province. Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa, Hamilton, London and Kitchener-Waterloo included. Ontario is where our footprint is thinnest of the three provinces we serve, so the useful conversation is about what your organization actually needs a person present for.
If you are not local, who turns up when hardware fails?
For most failures, nobody needs to. We keep spare devices configured and shipped, and a replacement laptop can be in someone's hands the next morning without a technician in the room. For work that genuinely needs hands on equipment, a switch, a server, an office move, attendance in Ontario is arranged locally and agreed with you before the visit, because happier IT has no Ontario office and says so. Ask before you sign, and hold us to the answer.
What is PHIPA and does it apply to our clinic?
PHIPA is the Personal Health Information Protection Act, Ontario’s law governing how personal health information is collected, used, kept and disclosed. It applies to health information custodians, which covers most clinics, practitioners and the organizations working on their behalf. In practice it shapes who can see a record, how access is logged, where information is stored and what must be reported if something goes wrong. It is a design input, not a reason to panic.
Is our data stored in Canada?
For the systems we run, yes, our security operations centre (SOC, the team watching for suspicious activity) is in Canada and staffed by our own employees. Where a platform you already use stores data elsewhere, we will name it and set out the options rather than implying we control it.
Why would we choose a provider that is not down the road?
Sometimes you should not, and we will say so. Where it makes sense is when the value is in the thinking and the monitoring rather than the driving: a Canadian security operations centre staffed by employees, a support desk a person answers, and planning that stops problems from needing a van at all. If your situation genuinely calls for someone in the building most weeks, a good local firm is the better answer, and we would rather tell you that on the first call.
