IT for plumbing contractors

The 2am call, answered.

Plumbing and drainage contractors come to happier IT for one thing first: calls that get answered and jobs that get dispatched, at two in the afternoon and at two in the morning on a long weekend. We provide managed IT, phone system support and cybersecurity to plumbing businesses in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. Invoicing from the truck and the office network hang off that.

Who it's for

Emergency work is a phone problem before it is an IT problem.

After-hours call handling
Where the call goes at 11pm, who it rings next, and how the answering service hands it back. That is phone configuration, fixable in an afternoon once someone writes down the rules you want.

ServiceTitan, Jobber, FieldEdge
Dispatch, job history and on-truck invoicing. What decides whether a job closes today is the technician's device, its data plan, and whether it can take a card at the door in a basement.

Parts across the trucks
Every van is a small warehouse, and the count is only as good as the scanning discipline.

Seasonal peaks
A cold snap can double call volume in a day. The phone tree has to have been designed for the bad week rather than the average one.

What's included

What we look after.

  • On-call routing you control

Voice over IP configuration, on-call rotations, ring groups and the answering service handoff, written in plain English and changeable by your dispatcher without a ticket.

  • Field software support

ServiceTitan, Jobber or FieldEdge: accounts, devices, app configuration, the accounting integration. We are not the vendor's implementation team, and we say so.

  • Truck devices, replaceable in a day

Phones and tablets enrolled in management, passcode-locked, wiped remotely if one goes missing, and swapped from a spare pool rather than reordered.

  • Backups that include the job history

The record of what was done in which building is your most valuable file. Accounting and document storage are backed up, and we test a restore on a schedule.

  • A helpdesk your dispatcher can reach

One number, answered by a person, for office, dispatch and technicians.

  • Supplier email checks

Email authentication plus a verification call to a number you already had removes most of the exposure.

How it works

How we start, in the quiet weeks.

  1. We write down the on-call rules as they really are

Including the ones only the owner knows. A good share of after-hours complaints get solved here, before anything technical changes.

  2. We fix the phone tree and the field devices

Routing rebuilt to match those rules and tested by actually calling the line out of hours, and truck devices brought onto one managed standard.

  3. Then the office catches up

Backups, accounts, monitoring and ordinary security work, then a budget you can see a year out. Scheduled outside your peak season.

What it costs

Pricing, phones included.

Cloud phone systems are priced separately, usually per extension, plus any answering service you contract directly. The number moves with how many technicians carry a company device and whether dispatch runs around the clock.

What we would not sell you

If your call volume is steady and your office is five people, you probably do not need a new phone platform. Reconfiguring the one you own is faster and cheaper, and we would rather say that than quote a migration.

Why us for this

What we can show you, and what we cannot yet.

Trades businesses are a large part of what happier IT does across Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.

Verifiable now: Microsoft, Cisco and CompTIA certifications, Certified Ethical Hacker credentials, and a Canadian security operations centre staffed by our own employees.

Questions

What people ask before they sign anything.

Can you set up after-hours and on-call phone routing?

Yes, and it is usually the first thing we do here. The work is defining the rules, which phone rings first, what happens on a statutory holiday, when the answering service takes over. Which platforms happier IT resells is Microsoft Teams, alongside the VoIP systems that sit next to it.

Do you support ServiceTitan or Jobber?

As platforms: accounts, devices, mobile app configuration, the integration into QuickBooks or Sage, and holding the vendor queue.

Our technicians lose signal in basements. Is that fixable?

Partly, and the answer is workflow more than hardware: field software that works offline lets a technician finish the form and take a signature underground, then sync later. Signal boosters help in some buildings and not others, so we test before spending.

What happens when call volume doubles in a cold snap?

Cloud dispatch and phone platforms absorb the volume; what buckles is the human routing around them. Before winter we check that overflow rules exist, that a second person can answer the main line from home, and that a temporary dispatcher can be given access in minutes.

Can we take card payments at the door on a weak connection?

Usually, if the app and the reader were chosen with that in mind, most field apps queue the transaction and submit it on reconnect, and a Bluetooth reader paired to a phone works where a Wi-Fi terminal will not.
