2.4 Million Affected in 3rd Largest Healthcare Breach of 2021
A ransomware attack on Forefront Dermatology exposed records for 2.4 million patients, employees and clinicians in one of 2021's largest healthcare breaches.

After suffering an apparent ransomware attack, a US-based chain of affiliated dermatology clinics notified 2.4 million patients, employees and clinicians of a data breach, now listed as the third-largest healthcare breach of 2021.
Breach tracking experts noted that approximately 47MB of organizational data was said to have been spotted in a large data dump on a darknet site. Included in this data was said to be over 130 files of information on Forefront Dermatology S.C.’s systems and network, security & backup details, and login credentials for vendor sites.
Company officials have released some details regarding the incident, stating that the organization has “promptly launched an investigation and notified law enforcement.” Further details of the investigation show that unauthorized parties gained access to the company’s IT network between May 28 and June 4. Potentially compromised data for patients, employees, and clinicians includes names, addresses, birthdates, other personal health information, medical record numbers, provider names and treatment information.
